WELCOME BACK PARENT VOLUNTEERS!
When volunteering in the library, remember to always sign in at the office first to receive a visitor’s badge. Sign in at the library as well. You must read and complete the yellow “Volunteer Pledge”.
Training: Attend a library information session with Ms. Molinos for training. Learn the general layout of the library, read through the procedures and practice on the computer to learn the Destiny Library Manager software, review shelving guidelines.
Automated Library System: Be sure to check the screen to verify accuracy and read the messages that appear.
Book Choices: Students should have a positive experience in the library. They are encouraged to make their own book choices. Sometimes a book will be “too hard” or “too easy” but, no matter their choice, it will be a learning experience for them. Occasionally a teacher will match a student with a "just right" book for practice or research.
What to do: Priority items are to check in the books and shelve them (if time) and check out the students’ new selections. If all of that is taken care of, refer to the volunteer notebook (where you sign in) for the shelf-reading chart or straighten the books and dust the shelves. There may be special projects to work on as well. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! And don’t forget your glasses.

HONOR ROLL
The Pacific Elementary School library is fully funded by community partners, not by the school district.
MBEF - Thanks to a generous donation from the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation, the MBUSD elementary school libraries are funded nearly full-time this year, each staffed by a Library Resource Specialist. See the 2014-2015 MBEF video featuring the Pacific, MBMS and Mira Costa libraries.
Pacific PTA - Where would the library be without our fabulous PTA?! PTA funds the day-to-day operational expenses of the library, including supplies, book purchases and reading incentive programs. 40+ volunteers assist with class visits to the library and special projects. Once a year, PTA holds a Book Fair in the cafeteria.
MBHS - For an incredible 8 years, the Manhattan Beach Historical Society made generous grants to our schools for the purchase of materials that support the Social Sciences for all grade levels.
Rotary - The Manhattan Beach Rotary Club has a long-standing relationship with Manhattan Beach Schools through the Rotary Reads program. Rotary volunteers read to K-2 students during their library visits during Rotary Reads Week (the 1st week of February 2020 for Pacific School). This year, Rotary generously donated $200 in {pages} gift cards to each of the 5 elementary schools.
