California Young Reader Medal
Participating in the California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) has been a tradition for many years in the MBUSD schools. All classes participate during readalouds in the library in the Primary (picture books for K-4th) and Picture Books for Older Readers (3rd and 4th) categories. Participation in the Intermediate category (4th and 5th) is optional and the students must read the books on their own time.
R.E.A.D. Program
Canines help kids read! Since 2010, the library has hosted the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program with selected Kindergarten and First Grade students. In 2017 was when the program started having only Kindergarten students participate. Therapy dogs and their volunteers spend time each week practicing their reading. Teams of volunteers and canines visit on Thursdays to read with Pacific kids in the library.
Pictured here in front of the school are Nikki and Bella who love to read! This school year Tucker, Ivy, Harper Lee, and Oscar can be seen on campus.
Our program was featured in the California Teachers Association Educator magazine in Spring 2015.

The library processes Scholastic Reading Club orders for the some classes. (Students in other classes will get catalogs and order through their classroom teacher.) When Panthers buy books for themselves, the library gets FREE books! The more students that participate, the greater our rewards.
Once you have selected books from the flyer, you may order in 2 ways:
To order with a check or exact cash, fill out the order form and turn it in to Ms. Molinos in the library. -- OR --
To order online, go to clubs.scholastic.com/. You will need to create a Scholastic Book Club account, if you haven't done so. Use MLLKP for the Class Activation Code.
The orders will be placed in a batch. Once they are received, they will be distributed to your child's classroom. If you would like to purchase a book as a gift or surprise for your child, please let Ms. Molinos know and your order will be held in the library for you to pick up.
