All of Pacific is participating in the kindness challenge. Students have been challenged to do at least 25 acts of kindness this week. Additionally when they see someone else doing something kind they write it down on a slip of paper those slips of paper are going to be used to make an art piece. In the library we are focusing on kindness and also getting reading for the book fair. Students have been getting a sneak preview of the books all week long, there are some pretty good choices this time so make sure to come next week. The book fair will be open Monday 15-May 19 from 8am-3pm and on May 17 from 5pm-8pm during Pacific Family Night. Hooray for Books!
Week May 1- Teacher Appreciation Week!
We love our teachers. This week is all about appreciating our teachers. How do teachers get to be so smart? We discussed this and class and came up with some great answers--going to school, reading lots of books, studying hard and learning everything they can. We also discussed how teachers are taught by other teachers but also students are teachers too. Everyone is a student and everyone is a teacher. To celebrate this we watched Kid President's Pep Talk to Teachers and Students. In TK and Kindergarten we apreciated our teachers with a song from Pancake Manor. Check out Teacher Song, it's sure to get you singing along!

Week of April 24- April 22 is Earth Day!
Here at Pacific Elementary we celebrate Earth Day all week long. Our class lessons focused on ways that we can conserve energy and recycle. Did you know that each person on Earth makes an average of 3 lbs of garbage A DAY? It's pretty crazy when you think about it. At Pacific we recycle everything, and even use recycled materials in our makerspace to create new things. Every class had a question to answer that we talked about. Why should we reduce our plastic waste and Why do we need trees? Take a second to think about it.

Students either read silently or with a buddy aloud and everyone wore there pajamas! It was a great event, staff even dressed up at the famous Cat in the Hat. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Week of Feb 6- February is African American History Month!
So much happens in the month of February; We have Groundhog Day,Valentine's Day, Presidents' Day and a little bit of a break coming up next week, but African American History is celebrated all month long! Here's a little history about how African American History month came about. Carter G Woodson and other noted African Americans got together in 1926 and decided to celebrate an African American history week in February. The celebration kept on getting bigger until in 1976 President Gerald Ford decided to officially declare February as National African American History month, and the tradition has continued ever since. It's a month that we celebrate the contributions, achievements, and roles that African Americans made to our country's history. To celebrate in the library we are reading about prominent African Americans who have made history in the past few decades. We also have a huge display for students, parents and teachers to come peruse and maybe learn about someone new. Come check out the library for a multitude of displays on everything we celebrate in February!

Week of September 26- More Fall Fun, Punctuation, and Learning Dewey Decimals!
Let me tell you about my friend, Sir Melvil Dewey. For those of you who don't know Melvil Dewey created the library classification system we all know and love: The Dewey Decimal System. Melvil Dewey is one of my favorite people in the world, just think how hard it would be find among the hundreds and thousands of books if there wasn't any organization to it at all! Check out the YouTube Channel of a slightly more modern Melvil Dewey for a whole bunch of library rap tunes. This week 3rd and 4th grades will be learning all about the Dewey Decimal System.

Fall is the best. Period. This week marks the first day of Autumn (September 22nd) as well as National Punctuation Day (September 24th)! I'm from New England originally so I will find any reason to celebrate my favorite season. Fall means apples and pumpkins and the arrival of holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving! For the older grades it's always good to focus on using proper punctuation, other wise we may say something we didn't mean. In our classes we are going to be reading books celebrating both of these lovely occasions, and doing a little bit of a review on proper punctuation.
What we are reading this week:
TK: Perfect Square and Press Here. K: Let It Fall and Penguin and Pumpkin 1st Grade: Fall Mixed Up and Leaf Trouble 2nd Grade: The Little Yellow Leaf 3rd Grade: The Girl's Like Spaghetti 4th Grade: Eats, Shoots & Leaves, plus a punctuation review and a punctuation rap featuring LL Cool Jay. 5th Grade: Twenty-Odd Ducks, a quick punctuation review and Dots N Dashes. |

Week of August 29th- Welcome Back!
Welcome Back to School!
As many of you know Mrs. Jones retired last year, so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Ms. Rheaume and I am so excited to be at Pacific Elementary. I love all kinds of books, and I hope you do too. We have some amazing books at the library and I have fun things planned for the year. Feel free to pop in and say hi, my door is always open!
We are currently scheduling volunteers for classes for the school year. If you'd like to volunteer, stop by the library or email Ms. Rheaume at [email protected].
Class visits begin on September 6th, after the holiday. Make sure to check here weekly for a list of what we will be reading during the week!
